It's quite hard to strike a good balance between having fun and working hard. Summer has pampered me, but as school looms ahead.... What an exciting challenge maintaining my constant hours of sports and tv and surfing the net. haha.

Law and Order is quite a good show. A lot of controversial and thought-provoking issues are woven into the plots, and that's one of the main reasons i'm so hooked. For example: A man runs an illegal adoption business, accepting unwanted babies from unwed mothers, and then selling the babies off. Demand for babies increase faster than his supply, so he devises a plan, to steal newborn babies from mothers. Of course, the couples adopting the children have no idea that they were adopting stolen babies. So one day this business is uncovered (of course how its uncovered is pretty exciting too), and the identities of these "stolen" babies (who are now young teenagers) are revealed. So, who should get custody of these kids? The couple who adopted the baby when he was a newborn and raised him well, or the real father of the child whose wife killed the woman who bore the child because she found out her husband had a baby with someone else? Haha, ok like damn twisted right... but quite cool lah i think, the plots. not just like A kills B , leaves evidence lying ard like breadcrumbs and then police hunts for A etc etc.

On the topic of TV shows, I love cooking shows. I'm fascinated by the kitchen, the gadgets, the ingredients, the methods, the garnishes, the presentations... every small detail of the food preparation process. I like all the intricacies, all the small tips that the chefs dish out, and I like the chefs who bother to explain the rationale behind the sequences they use to prep the food. Like why they roll the lemons before squeezing it, why they cut certain meats of seafood in certain ways, why they use certain pans or utensils for certain foods... ah!!! How entertaining!
I think that's why I love to cook!! Almost like I'm in another world of my own!

Today, I had Kong Rou Fan for dinner. It's a bit like Dong Po Rou, or to some people it is simply known as Fat Fatty Pork with Lard and Oil. Haha. It is one of the most sinful foods ever.... close fight with Krispy Kreme donuts. But today I had to eat it, so we went to Taiwan Cafe to eat. It was good... but well not absolutely fantastic. I think I like my mum's version better, cos the pork is stewed for a long time until the fat layers are almost melting and the meat is super tender and soft. But well I'm not complaining because the meal was still quite shiok.

Simple pleasures in life. Like a crispy baguette on a Labor Day weekend. Mmm.
