THE LADDER
I have this theory... that all humans in society are arranged on a ladder with infinite rungs, and the rung that you're standing on represents ur position in the social hierachy. Its hard to climb up, especially if there are people on top of you, but the higher u are originally, the less people are above u so the easier it is for you to step all over them and jump onto a higher rung. For the person right at the top, he or she can easily just step up, and that will free up a rung below him so the next person can step up etc etc. Which means that he or she can be nice and make the extra effort of taking one step, so that the rest of society can move up. Of course, if you only value your position on the ladder relative to others, then the act of the whole group moving up by one rung does not make you any happier than before. But if u geniunely want the lives of everyone to improve, you'll be glad that all humans can climb up a rung.
If unfortunately you're somewhere far below... then it's gonna be REALLY tough getting any higher.... cos u have to wait till someone above u decides to climb... and that person probably has to wait for someone further above to climb... etcetc. So if ur stuck somewhere down there, you might not get to move much over your whole lifetime. Even when u try to climb, u'll have to endure lots of screaming and cursing by the ppl whose heads u step on. Of course if you have money, you can pacify those people by giving them $ and asking them to let you step on their heads or shoulders. Of course, $ may not be of use to some people, and when other people see this... they might start demanding more or they might refuse even more profusely because they think you are immoral. (You are supposed to climb up the ladder using your own hands and legs)
When you get married, you and your spouse are allowed to occupy the same rung, and when you two want to climb, it'll be easier cos you can step on your spouse's shoulder or if your spouse is strong he or she can help pull you up the ladder.
As to where people start out... when babies are born they are placed on closest empty rung to their parents (who are on the same rung).
Makes any sense?
I thought of this in the shower.
