Country roads, take me home
To the place, I be-long
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads....
So I am in Kincaid, West Virginia. They have a computer room here in the middle of nowhere.... with internet connection somemore. Which is good lah cos it makes me feel connected to the rest of the world, even though taking a look around me would tell me that i'm not really very connected. Haha... the drive from Philly to WV took almost 9 hours, and the last one hour was in darkness as we drove through rocky roads and muddy paths. It was fun driving the minivan though, quite a cool minivan actually. Got DVD player somemore... and I managed to watch the gory disgusting Kill Bill while taking my break from driving.
Reached the South Appalachian Labor School at about 8 pm, it's a small building in the middle of some mountains and trees, but it's surprisingly well equipped. Renovated from an elementary school (Charles mentioned that perhaps the location for the school led to its eventual state of abandonment) it actually has bunk beds (I'm sleeping on a bottom one and I have this phobia that Jaren is going to fall unto me cos the beds look a bit old) and showers (Praise God cos there's hot water) and TV and of course, computers. But no phone reception. Which is fine with me actually. I think this is actually very comfortable living, cept for the cold at night.
We went out for groceries last night.... so fun to shop in bulk. We bought SOOO much food... i think it was like 300 bucks worth of groceries. Along the way, Michelle and John were talking about their citizenships and issues about emotional attachment to their home countries etc. Michelle is my site leader, and holds 3 citizenships... Malawi, US and Canada. She was saying, it's really useful to have many citizenships when you're travelling, but eventually if she chooses to work for the US government she will have to give up 2 citizenships, but she feels strongly attached to Malawi cos her family is there (though she was born in US). John is American, but his dad is Italian+American and his grandparents are Italian. He studied abroad in Italy for a semester and really loves the country, so he wants to get his Italian citizenship. So interesting to listen to all their stories... it makes me reflect on how lucky I am. I'm Singaporean, and proud of it. My home is back in Paya Lebar Walk, my entire family is Singaporean, I don't worry about "where I belong" issues... I just know exactly where home is for me.
Think I'll start taking pictures today... when ppl start getting up :)
That's all for now. I miss Mr. Incredible.
